Earthquake jolts Islamabad, Rawalpindi, adjoining areas

ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): A 5.1 magnitude earthquake has jolted several areas of the country, including the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, late at night on Saturday.

The tremors were felt in Chakwal, Jhelum, Attock, Swabi, Abbottabad, and other major cities of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The National Seismic Monitoring Center of the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported that the epicenter of the earthquake, which occurred at 12:10 am, was 15 km East-Southeast of Rawat, a town near Islamabad.

The depth of the quake was 10 km. The officials have not reported any immediate damage or casualties.

Earlier on Saturday morning, a 5.4-magnitude earthquake was felt in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Azad Kashmir, and Islamabad.

The National Seismic Monitoring Centre confirmed that an earthquake was recorded at a depth of 102km, while its epicenter was in the Hindukush Mountain region in Afghanistan.
