MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck parts of Northern Pakistan, including Azad Kashmir, Islamabad, and several parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday.
The tremors were felt at 11:47 am across major cities, including Islamabad, Lahore, Muzaffarabad, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, and several others.
The earthquake, the second in a week, prompted residents to flee their homes and workplaces in fear.
According to the PMD’s National Seismic Monitoring Centre, the epicentre was located near the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region, with a depth of 94 kilometres at latitude 36.21 N and longitude 71.34 E.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), strong tremors were experienced in Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Athmuqam in Neelum Valley district, Hattian Bala, and other cities.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Malakand, Bajaur, Nowshera, Dir Bala, Shabqadar, Mohmand, Chitral, Swat, and Mardan felt jolts. While Chiniot, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Gujranwala, and other cities in Punjab also experienced the quake.
