MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal, a member of the PTI AJK’s Parliamentary Board, has resigned from his position over difference with the party leadership.
He has sent his resignation to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan. In a letter addressed to Barrister Gohar, Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal expressed serious reservations about the board members, stating that Imran Khan founded Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on the principles of justice, rule of law, transparency, and merit.
“These are not just slogans but the foundation of our political identity. Therefore, it is a matter of deep concern that in this situation, the party appears to be deviating from these fundamental principles.”
He said that workers are concerned that their voices are being consistently ignored. Many ideological party members have already raised objections, and it is being seen as a one-sided board.
Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal stated that a significant number of members included in the board are themselves prospective candidates in the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections.
“This raises serious questions about impartiality, fairness, and the integrity of the candidate selection process.”
2021 PTI Parliamentary Board
“In contrast, the parliamentary board formed for the 2021 elections was particularly more balanced, with several members who were not contesting the elections, ensuring impartial decision-making.”
Furthermore, he said, it is difficult to justify the absence of representation from the party’s central leadership in Pakistan, especially when other major political parties like PPP and PML-N ensure such representation to maintain balance and oversight.
Muhammad Iqbal clarified that he cannot be part of the board in its current form and urged the party leadership to dissolve the board and form a new, impartial, and merit-based board.
He also reiterated his commitment to stand with PTI and its ideology and continue to serve the party.
It is worth noting that a meeting of the Parliamentary Board was held few days back, in which applications for tickets were sought from candidates.
PTI workers have expressed serious reservations about PTI’s Parliamentary Board, stating that apart from Muhammad Iqbal, no basic PTI worker is included in the Parliamentary Board.
