DFP calls for inclusive dialogue to resolve long-standing Kashmir dispute

SRINAGAR (Kashmir English): The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has urged the world community to play its role to help resolve the longstanding issue of Kashmir for lasting peace in the region.

Kashmir Media Service while quoting a DFP spokesman statement in Srinagar said that a deeper engagement on the part of influential world powers particularly the US could help pave the way for a just and lasting resolution to the issue that happens to be the root cause of tensions between two nuclear armed neighbours.

Stressing a sustainable and result-oriented talks involving all stakeholders, Advocate Arshad Iqbal said, “Inclusion of genuine Kashmiri leadership in any decision-making process is imperative to ensure that the interests and aspirations of the Kashmiri people are fully represented”.

He said that Kashmiri leadership has always supported dialogue to find out a just settlement of the dispute, stressing that peace and stability in the region hinges on the resolution of the long-running Kashmir dispute.

Kashmir the core issue

Denouncing India’s traditional intransigence, Iqbal said it was high time that the Indian government shun its jingoistic policies and resume the long-stalled dialogue to resolve all issues including the core issue.

The spokesman, while reiterating his party’s stance, emphasized that a resolution of the Kashmir dispute must prioritize the will of Kashmiris who happen to be the main stakeholders.

The spokesman urged the Indian government to immediately release all political prisoners, including Shabbir Ahmed Shah, who are languishing in different jails in and outside the Kashmir Valley.
