MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Student Action Committee in Azad Kashmir announced today that it would stage state-wide protests on April 22 if the government failed to release a schedule for student union elections.
The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Student Action Committee has announced a state-wide peaceful protest across Azad Jammu and Kashmir(AJK) on April 22 in response to the government’s failure to announce the schedule for student union elections.
The Committee has demanded the immediate release of the election schedule and warned that if the demand is not met, peaceful demonstrations and rallies will be held in all universities and educational institutions across the region.
Speaking at a press conference at the Central Press Club, core members of the Committee including Chaudhry Aqib Azim, Raja Ehsan Khurshid, Ibrahim Mir, Raja Huzaifa, Usman Sani, Raja Ahmer, Ahmed Gilani, Chaudhry Faisal, Chaudhry Danish, Chaudhry Saqib, and Syed Sibt-ul-Hassan Kazmi highlighted the importance of student representation. The Student Action Committee operates as a single platform which incorporates students from multiple ideological orientations among all districts in the state above political boundaries.
On February 4, the Azad Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee agreed with the Azad Kashmir government, enabling the student union election notification to emerge. The speakers denounced the government for its failure to carry out the promised agreement and pressured officials to enforce it right away.
At the heart of their campaign stands the peaceful nature of their struggle since the constitution grants individuals the right to organize associations under Article 4 of the state legislation. The group declared that attempts by disruptive factions watched by authorities to disrupt peaceful actions would trigger powerful responses which the government and administration must handle completely.
The Committee firmly rejected defamatory remarks made by hostile elements trying to discredit the student movement and demanded legal action against them. They declared that students across the state stand united behind the Student Action Committee and will continue their uncompromising struggle until student union elections are held.
Additionally, the Committee announced full support for the upcoming protest in Muzaffarabad on April 11, organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee and Seerat Committee, against Israeli aggression in Palestine.
