MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Deputy Commissioner Muzaffarabad has formed a four-member inquiry committee to probe the violent crackdown against journalists during the MNCH protest today.
The development after the Muzaffarabad Police turned violent against the journalists, who participated in the ongoing protest by the Maternal Newborn and Child Healthcare (MNCH) employees against the government.
The protestors have been demanding the reinstatement of their job and payment of their salaries, which they have been deprived of for 13 months.
The committee will be chaired by Additional DC Muzaffarabad Syed Imran Abbas, and the members include Additional Superintendent Police Muzaffarabad Syed Razaul Hassan, Assistant Commissioner Muzaffarabad Syed Mohiuddin, and District Information Office Muzaffarabad Muhammad Sohail Khan.
The committee will be bound to submit a report within 02 days after the investigation, naming the accused.
Earlier, following the incident, the district administration reached out to the press club for talks, which ended in deadlock as the journalists demanded the suspension of the SSP and DSP, and registration of an FIR against those who committed the violence.
The district administration representatives, including the Deputy Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner, after talking to the journalists, admitted the police brutality against journalists.
The representatives apologized unconditionally to the journalists and announced an inquiry committee.
