DC Mirpur’s brothers allegedly named in inter-provincial drug trafficking case

MIRPUR (Kashmir English): The brothers of Deputy Commissioner Mirpur Yasir Riaz have allegedly been named in a case related to an organized inter-provincial drug trafficking gang.

According to the details, the development came after the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) seized a huge quantity of ice and heroin worth crores of rupees during an operation in Lahore.

Following the operation, the inquiry revealed the alleged involvement of high-ranking government officials from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to documents available with Kashmir Digital, the ANF at Johar Town Station summoned Food Inspector Mirpur Asif Riaz on June 16 to record his statement, while the Electricity Department Mirpur official Saqib Riaz was summoned on July 7.

According to the FIR, the police stopped a Suzuki Alto at Thokar Niaz Baig, from which 2 kg of ice and 2 kg of heroin were recovered. The accused Habib-ur-Rehman, a resident of Nowshera, was arrested on the spot, it added.

As the police initiated the investigation in the case, the accused arrested two other people, who are identified as the brothers of Deputy Commissioner Mirpur Yasir Riaz.

Both suspects are being investigated in a case, but no official announcement has been made about their arrest or indictment yet.
