MIRPUR (Kashmir English): Chief Justice Raja Saeed Akram Khan chaired the Council of Islamic Ideology 108th meeting in Mirpur today, where members reviewed legal and educational policies, condemned human rights violations in Kashmir, and passed resolutions on regional conflicts.

Justice Raja Saeed Akram Khan who served as Council Chairman and Chief Justice directed the 108th Islamic Ideological Council meeting of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) which occurred at the Supreme Court Rest House in Mirpur. The council and secretariat reviewed their past uncompleted work while also discussing changes to property transfer laws with educational policy amendments.

During meetings 106 and 107, the council performed follow-ups on decisions regarding the Transfer of Property (Amendment) Act 2021 and the 2023-40 Education Policy. The education department presented to the council the different sections of the policy which focused on student character development.

From the position of Chief Justice Raja Saeed Akram Khan, the council received official recognition for its meaningful role in providing Islamic guidance to state authorities and the legislative body. The Council Act of 1997 together with the Interim Constitution of 1974 enables the Council to examine current laws to verify their correspondence with Islamic values. The council has exclusive power to suggest social transformation measures that follow Quranic and Sunnah principles.

The meeting completed previous session subjects by agreeing upon a set of recommendations that would form the basis of the education policy. The council serves as a source of wise direction to help the education department elevate academic quality and student moral development according to the chairman. The council leader announced during the meeting that their last session would take place in Muzaffarabad following Eid-ul-Fitr to evaluate their work and try to invite the AJK Prime Minister.

The body issued multiple key declarations during their session to express their firm opposition to Indian military violations of human rights within Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting both recognized Kashmiri’s self-determination rights and decried Indian LoC aggression through indiscriminate attacks and weapons transfer into Kashmir. The council warned that continued Indian aggression in the region presented the risk of regional instability.

A binding resolution accepted the Gaza peace accords yet it disapproved of the policies directed at moving Palestinian families from their lands. Lasting peace could only be achieved through a two-state solution which should comply with pre-1967 borders. The council pointed out Israel’s illegal settlement growth and declared any displacement of Palestinians illegal under international laws while representing a threat to regional security standards.

The session ended with devotional prayers focusing on Islamic leadership combined with freedom for Kashmir stability for Pakistan and respect for Pakistan Armed Forces martyrs.
