ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The cooking oil prices in Pakistan have increased sharply, which creates additional difficulties for households that already face the increased cost of living.

Market data shows that over the past week, cooking oil prices have increased by as much as Rs. 60 per liter, which has caused the retail price to reach Rs. 550 per liter. Shopkeepers state that cooking oil used to sell at Rs. 490 per liter until supply shortages caused prices to increase.

The latest price increase has made it harder for consumers who already face essential goods price increases because they need to buy basic items. Flour prices have risen simultaneously with flour prices because a 5-kg bag of flour now costs Rs. 900, which exceeds the prices of competing brands in the market.

The price increase occurs at a time when Pakistan experiences widespread inflation, which causes essential food prices to rise and create financial difficulties for families.
