MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry met US Congressman Thomas Suozzi in New York today, urging US mediation in the Kashmir dispute, while Suozzi accepted an invitation to visit Azad Kashmir to further highlight the issue, advancing US-AJK diplomatic talks.
Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir visited the New York office of US Congressman Thomas Suozzi where he served as Chairman of the Pakistan Caucus in Congress to request American mediation in the ongoing Kashmir conflict.
According to President Mahmood, their thorough conversation established that South Asian peace will never be permanent until the Kashmir conflict receives proper attention. The president cautioned that tensions between two nuclear-armed countries would boil into major conflict any time one incident occurs thus causing a devastating global impact.
President Sultan emphasized the dangerous nature of Kashmir by recalling the time when US former president Bill Clinton described it as “the most dangerous region in the world.” He requested the United States as well as the international community to conduct proactive measures that would foster peace and stability throughout the region.
Congressman Thomas Suozzi confirmed to President Sultan Mahmood that he will soon conduct a visit to AJK following their acceptance of the invitation. The journey will enhance worldwide understanding of Kashmir as an international issue.
The visit of US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar to AJK created international recognition of the Kashmir crisis. President Sultan underlined the importance of diplomatic activities because they continue to advance the search for a Kashmir conflict solution.
The arrival of President Sultan Mahmood at his office prompted Congressman Suozzi to personally meet him outside as a sign of their critical interaction.
