KARACHI (Kashmir English): The Sindh government on Tuesday announced a public holiday in Karachi tomorrow, August 20, in view of the recent situation following heavy monsoon rains.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced the decision following an emergency meeting held under the chairmanship of CM Shah on the situation in Karachi.
During the meeting, provincial ministers Sharjeel Memon, Nasir Shah, Saeed Ghani, and others participated.
As per details, CM Murad Ali Shah was informed that Motorpolis received the highest rainfall of 245 mm in 12 hours today, paralysing the city and triggering urban flooding.
Considering the possibility of more rain tomorrow, the Chief Minister declared a public holiday and advised the public to stay at home and take possible precautionary measures.
Earlier today, the Sindh government also said that all public and private schools across Karachi will remain closed on Wednesday, August 20, amid the prevailing severe weather conditions.
The announcements came after the city received heavy rainfall, resulting in the major roads and neighborhoods to submerged in rainwater. Several areas throughout the city also faced power outages as 800 feeders tripped. Heavy downpour also triggered urban flooding and left at least eight people dead.
