BEIJING (Kashmir English): China on Monday called on both India and Pakistan to show restraint after reports confirmed a fourth consecutive night of gunfire exchanges between their soldiers in the disputed Kashmir region.
Speaking at a press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun stated, “China urges Pakistan and India to exercise restraint, meet each other halfway, address their differences properly through dialogue and consultation, and work together to uphold peace and stability in the region.”
The appeal came as Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during a phone conversation with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday, reaffirmed China’s consistent support for Pakistan’s strong stance on counterterrorism.
Dar briefed Wang about the growing tensions between Pakistan and India following recent terrorist attacks in Kashmir. He stressed that Pakistan remains committed to fighting terrorism and opposes any actions that could worsen the situation, according to a report by CGTN.
Dar further noted that Pakistan is handling the situation responsibly and plans to maintain open communication with both China and the broader international community.
In response, Wang Yi, a senior member of the Communist Party of China’s Political Bureau, reiterated that China urges Pakistan to stay firm in its approach. Wang highlighted that combating terrorism is a collective responsibility shared by all nations and expressed China’s firm support for Pakistan’s efforts in this regard.
Wang underlined the longstanding “iron-clad” friendship and the all-weather strategic partnership between China and Pakistan. He assured that China fully recognises Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns and backs its right to protect its sovereignty and national interests.
Emphasising the need for a balanced approach, Wang also called for a fair and thorough investigation into the recent attacks. He warned that ongoing conflicts between Pakistan and India harm both sides’ fundamental interests and jeopardise regional peace.
Once again, China urges Pakistan and India to maintain calm, open channels for dialogue, and work towards easing tensions to support stability in the region. As tensions persist, China urges Pakistan to engage closely with international partners and continue advocating for peaceful solutions.
