MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): In a significant step to boost tourism in the region, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has decided to install chairlifts in Ratti Gali, Baboon Valley, Arang Kel, and Taobat.

Talking to the media in Taobat, Director General of the Tourism Department, Chaudhry Mehrban, has said that the preparations for a master plan for the development of tourism have entered the final stages.

This plan aims to provide employment opportunities to local citizens and enhance the overall tourism experience.

The tourism department official added that the government has planned to develop Neelum Valley on the lines of Gilgit and Naran Kaghan, which could positively impact tourism in the region.

In addition to that, the DG Tourism Department has appealed to private construction companies to build units with at least 100 rooms to cater to the growing demand for accommodations.

“The construction of smaller units, which include huts, etc., affects the natural beauty of the area,” he said. DG Tourism also emphasised the need for responsible construction practices to preserve the natural beauty of the region.

Chaudhry Mehrban on Wednesday visited Neelum Valley to review tourism development projects. During his three-day visit, he inspected guest houses of the tourism department in Keran, Upper Neelum, Sharda, Kel, and Gurez Valley.

The master plan is expected to guide future development and ensure sustainable tourism practices in Azad Kashmir, he said.

On this occasion, he was accompanied by Assistant Director of Tourism Khawaja Mushtaq Ganai, Tourism Officer Chaudhry Lal Hussain, and others.
