MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Residents urged the government to establish an international airport in Azad Kashmir to ease travel difficulties for over 5 million locals and 2.5 million overseas Kashmiris, boosting tourism and economic growth.

Residents of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) urge the government to create an international airport facility. The situation of Kashmiris face immense hardship because of the nonexistence of a proper international airport, affecting more than 5 million residents. Approximately 2.5 million Kashmiris abroad across the world encounter major travel problems in their journeys thus proving that air connectivity remains essential for the region.

The people of Kashmir conveyed their discontent during interviews because Azad Kashmir does not have an international airport facility. The absence of a proper International airport requires Kashmiri residents and overseas Kashmiris to use alternative airport facilities throughout the country. The lack of a proper International airport causes travel time extensions and operational hardships primarily affecting families and elderly travelers as well as passengers with special requirements.

AJK has a large overseas population. Thousands return each year to see their family or for business. Currently, they have to fly into airports in Islamabad, Lahore, or other major cities before making an extra road journey to reach their hometowns. This extra travel adds excessive expenses and inconvenience.

Local residents support the construction of a facilities that enables international travel because it would enhance connectivity and create lower rates for everything from fares to fees. This initiative will experience substantial economic growth through enhanced tourist attraction which will bring people from around the world to the area.

AJK is known for its breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and great potential for tourism. With the building of an international airport, the region could attract a higher number of tourists and investors. This would create jobs, develop infrastructure, and improve local businesses.

The residents requested the government to develop existing airports by modifying international routes because this would provide temporary service until building the new airport begins.

The government should construct an international airport with top priority because residents need better access and economic improvement alongside improved connectivity for Kashmiris. People consider an international airport development project as a transformative move which will enhance worldwide access to AJK and raise the residents’ quality of life.
