MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Thursday announced the schedule for by-elections on vacant seats in several local councils across Azad Kashmir.

The notification issued by the election commission stated that polling for the six vacant seats will be held on June 6, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The by-elections will take place in union councils of Kotli, Bagh, Poonch, Muzaffarabad, and Jhelum Valley districts.

The commission notified elections for the Youth seat in the Rajdhani local council and the Chairman seat in the Barali local council in Kotli district.

Furthermore, polls will be held for the Chairman seat in Naryola local council in Bagh, the Chairman seat in Khali Darman local council in Poonch, the Chairman seat in Seri Dara local council in Muzaffarabad, and the Chairman seat in Gujjar Bandi local council in Jhelum Valley.

By-elections schedule

As per the election schedule issued by the electoral body of AJK, nomination papers can be submitted from May 23 to May 25 till 2:00 pm.

Afterward, the scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on May 29, and the list of valid candidates will also be published on May 29.

The commission will accept appeals against rejection of nomination papers till June 1, and appeals will be decided on June 2.

Last date for withdrawal of candidature is set on June 3 till 2:00 pm, and the final list of contesting candidates will be published on June 3 after 2:00 pm, the notification stated.
