MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Prominent Azad Kashmir businessman Sardar Yasir Ilyas, brother of former AJK Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, has officially joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
This move has caught the attention of many in Azad Kashmir, especially as both brothers have now aligned themselves with different political parties. While Sardar Tanveer Ilyas is associated with a different party, Sardar Yasir Ilyas’ decision to join PML-N is being seen as a significant shift in the regional political landscape.
Shortly after his political shift, Sardar Yasir Ilyas is set to be appointed as the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Tourism and Information Technology, according to official sources. The notification regarding his appointment is expected to be issued today.
Speaking about the development, political observers noted that Sardar Yasir Ilyas has long held influence in the business and social sectors of AJK, and his entry into politics is expected to strengthen the PML-N’s position in the region.
Local residents expressed surprise over the fact that two politically active brothers have chosen separate paths. However, supporters of Sardar Yasir Ilyas believe his decision is rooted in a desire to contribute more effectively to the people of Azad Kashmir by working under the leadership of PML-N.
His business background, public service record, and connections across different sectors are expected to give the party a fresh edge.
For now, Sardar Yasir Ilyas has assured his supporters that his decision is based on principles and a vision to support democratic development and economic progress in Azad Kashmir.
