ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) head, Maulana Fazlur Rehman are weighing the possibility of an electoral alliance in Azad Kashmir ahead of the general elections.

The top leadership from both sides discussed the alliance in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan in a recent meeting held in Islamabad.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari arrived at the residence of JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad for the meeting, where Azad Kashmir elections were discussed.

President PPP Azad Kashmir, Chaudhry Yasin, was also present at the meeting. According to sources, a one-on-one meeting took place between the two leaders.

On this occasion, important consultations were held regarding the upcoming elections in Gilgit-Baltistan. A possible electoral alliance between Pakistan Peoples’ Party and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl was seriously considered.

During the meeting, it was also decided to form a joint committee of both parties, which will finalise further details of the possible alliance.

According to JUI sources, Maulana Fazlur Rehman asked for time to consult the party regarding joining provincial governments.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman thanked Bilawal Bhutto for his invitation and said that any decision in this regard could only be made after consulting the party.

On the other hand, sources indicate that the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), an anti-PPP alliance in Sindh, has geared up against the possible alliance between PPP and JUI-F.
