MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Captain (retd) Liaqat Ali Malik has accused members of the prohibited Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) of damaging public infrastructure and attacking security personnel.
Speaking to the media, the IGP alleged that action committee miscreants had dug up and damaged roads constructed at a cost of billions of rupees, cut down trees, and handed them over to the timber mafia.
Malik said members of the banned JAAC had themselves told their workers to shut down markets and bazaars, adding that the ongoing protests had adversely affected tourism and education across the region.
The IG AJK further alleged that security personnel had been martyred and hundreds injured by JAAC miscreants.
“The members of the banned Action Committee are using women as shields and opening fire on security forces,” he said. Liaqat Malik maintained that security personnel were not firing, exercising restraint and patience.
IGP Azad Kashmir further questioned how protestors armed with modern and prohibited weapons, including M4 and M7 rifles, are peaceful.
He alleged that those involved in killings, kidnappings, and grenade attacks on security force posts could not be described as peaceful protesters.
