MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): As the spring kicks in with the growing trend of kite flying, the Muzaffarabad district administration has imposed a ban on kite flying across the district under Section 144 for two months.

According to the notification issued by District Magistrate Mudassar Farooq on Tuesday, “the ban, imposed under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), prohibits the sale and purchase of kites, making of strings, metal strings, and kites within the limits of Muzaffarabad district.”

“In the future, no person/persons shall be allowed to do so. Any person found violating the ban will face action under Section APC-188,” it read.

According to the notification, “The trend of kite flying increases among the citizens with the arrival of spring in the city.”

“Due to kite flying, not only are the kite flyers themselves victims of various accidents, but their act also causes severe financial and physical problems for the general public,” it read.

The notification added, in particular, that the strings and metal strings used in kite flying pose a risk of life and property damage to other citizens, especially motorcyclists.

“In the past, many precious human lives have been lost due to metal strings getting entangled in their throats.”

Therefore, given the safety point, it is inevitable to impose a ban on kite flying, the manufacture of strings, metal strings, kites, and their purchase and sale in the Muzaffarabad district so that the lives and property of the citizens can be ensured.

This isn’t the first time authorities have cracked down on kite flying. In Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered a campaign to eradicate kite flying across the province, citing frequent incidents despite a ban.
