RAWALPINDI (Kashmir English): Pakistan star batter and former captain Babar Azam has set another record for taking the most catches in T20Is by a Pakistan player, while demonstrating excellent fielding in the final of the tri-nation series against Sri Lanka at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Azam took three catches in the tri-nation final, bringing his number of catches to 60 in 136 matches, surpassing Fakhar Zaman’s previous record of 57 catches.
He grabbed catches of Kusal Mendis, Kamil Mishara, and Pavan Rathnayake in the final match.
Babar rarely drops chances, and his calm presence under pressure makes him one of the most dependable fielders on the team. With a catch-per-innings ratio of 0.433, he maintains both consistency and longevity.
In addition to his good fielding in the final match, Babar Azam also played a prominent role in batting. He contributed to the victory by scoring 37 runs off 34 balls with the help of two fours and a six.
In the final played at the Rawalpindi Stadium, Sri Lanka set Pakistan a target of 115 runs, which the hosts chased down with eight balls to spare, defeating the visitors by 6 wickets.
Babar Azam was not on 37 runs as the top scorer, while Salman Ali Agha scored 14 runs. Openers Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub scored 23 and 36 runs respectively.
Earlier, Sri Lanka set Pakistan a target of 115 runs to win. They were bowled out for 114 runs in 20 overs while batting first.
Kamil Mishara stood out for Sri Lanka by scoring 59 runs, and apart from him, no other Sri Lankan batsman could withstand the Pakistani bowlers. Kushal Mendis scored 14, and Nissanka scored 11 runs.
Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Nawaz took 3 wickets each, and Abrar Ahmed took 2 wickets.
