Parts of Azad Kashmir to experience rain on Feb 9, 10

MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) of the Azad Government of the State of Jammu and Kashmir has issued an emergency alert in view of the Meteorological Department’s forecast of rain in various areas of Azad Kashmir and heavy snowfall in upper and mountainous regions during February 9 and 10.

According to SDMA, the anticipated adverse weather conditions are likely to result in slippery mountainous roads, landslides, road closures, disruption of traffic flow, and impact on daily routines.

Rain to hit large parts of AJK

As per the alert, the districts of Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Jhelum Valley, Mirpur, Kotli, Bhimber, Rawalakot, Bagh, Haveli, and Poonch may be more affected, while the situation is feared to become more complicated due to heavy snowfall in the upper regions.

SDMA has issued directives to the district administration, Rescue 1122, Highway Department, Health Department, Tourist Police, and other relevant institutions to remain on high alert and complete advance arrangements to deal with any emergency situation. Orders have also been issued to deploy machinery, snow removal equipment, and emergency response teams at sensitive locations.

SDMA has strictly advised the general public and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel and to ascertain the latest weather conditions, road status, and official directives before heading to mountainous and snow-affected areas.

Residents in snowy areas have been advised to secure fuel, medicines, food, and other essential items in advance.

SDMA’s State Emergency Operation Center is fully functional, monitoring the situation moment by moment and maintaining continuous contact with all relevant institutions.

In case of any emergency, the public should immediately contact the district administration, Rescue 1122, or the Tourist Police, the SDMA said.
