MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir, Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, on Friday ordered to increase the amount of the Zakat Profit Fund from Rs 50 million to Rs 100 million to provide immediate assistance to deserving people suffering from fatal diseases.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Zakat and Ushr Department, where the Prime Minister was briefed on the administrative affairs and the problems faced by the Zakat Profit Fund, the statement issued by the Press Information Department (PID) said.
The Secretary of the Zakat and Ushr Department briefed PM Haq on assistance for treatment facilities and the administrative affairs of the Zakat Profit Fund.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister directed to provide additional funds to deserving people immediately and to distribute funds in proportion to their population in view of their immediate medical needs.
Moreover, the premier emphasized the importance of transparency in providing fundamental rights to deserving people and stated that there will be no compromise on transparency. “The assistance of deserving people from the Zakat Profit Fund will continue,” he maintained.
He highlighted the importance of healthcare as a fundamental issue and directed the Zakat and Ushr Department to provide assistance to deserving people suffering from fatal diseases such as cancer, heart disease, liver and kidney transplants, the statement added.
“In the past 6 months, 80 deserving people from all over Azad Kashmir were provided with relief funds from the Zakat Profit Fund for the treatment of fatal diseases,” it stated.
The meeting was attended by Government Minister Chaudhry Azhar Sadiq, Chief Secretary Khushal Khan, Principal Secretary Zafar Mahmood Khan, Secretary Electricity Irshad Qureshi, and Chief Administrator Zakat.
