New York (Kashmir English): Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar, has called for respect for the right of Kashmiris to self-determination.

Addressing a ceremony on Kashmir Solidarity Day, Pakistani Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar said that a large number of people are living in hardship in the occupied areas.

The Pakistani delegate said that illegal measures were taken in occupied Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019. Educational institutions are closed due to the continuous lockdown in occupied Kashmir. The continuous curfew has badly affected tourism, agriculture, and other sectors.

The Pakistani delegate stressed the need for global attention on human rights violations in occupied Kashmir, saying that extrajudicial killings are being carried out in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

He stressed that the right of Kashmiris to self-determination should be respected, and UN resolutions and human rights should be taken into account in the occupied areas.

Unwavering Support for the Kashmir Cause

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering political, diplomatic, and moral support for the Kashmir cause on Kashmir Solidarity Day, stating that any front India chooses to open will be met with an unforgettable response from Pakistan.

Addressing a special session of the AJK Legislative Assembly held on Kashmir Solidarity Day today, the prime minister paid tribute to the sacrifices of the Kashmiri people, and underlined that history bears witness that Kashmiris can sacrifice their lives and children but will never compromise on their freedom.

He stated that the Kashmiri people’s struggle for the right to self-determination would continue until its logical conclusion in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and announced a special development package for the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
