LAHORE (Kashmir English): Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s Olympic gold medalist, has formally declined Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra’s invitation to compete in the Bengaluru Classic Throwing Championship scheduled for next month.
Sources quoted Nadeem as having conveyed his gratitude to Chopra in a response letter, before stating that he wouldn’t be able to attend the May 24 event due to prior training commitments and a Korea trip.
He though acknowledged the invitation but stating that there was no room for additional engagements due to a tight schedule.
“This year’s training and events have already been finalised, leaving no room for additional activity,” Nadeem reportedly told Chopra, extending best wishes for the success of the Bengaluru event scheduled to take place on May 24.
Chopra had personally invited Nadeem to participate in the upcoming javelin show named after him. The event is set to take place on 24th of the next month in Bengaluru, India.
Arshad Nadeem is set to represent the country at the Asian Athletics Championship in South Korea, beginning May 27. He is expected to reach Korea in the third week of May to adjust ahead of the continental event.
Both Nadeem and Chopra have previously shared the victory stand and mutual respect, also in the last Olympics, and other major global competitions including the World Athletics Championships.
