GUMI (Kashmir English): Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem has qualified for the javelin final at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025, which are being held in Gumi, South Korea, from May 27 to May 31.

The final for the Javelin event will be held on May 31 at 1:10 PM Pakistan time.

In the A Qualification round, the leading javelin athlete from Pakistan threw a remarkable 86.34 meters in his first attempt, easily qualifying for the final. Muhammad Yasir also qualified with a 76.07-metre throw in the B Qualification round.

Over 2,000 athletes from 43 countries are competing at the 26th edition of the Asian Athletics Championships 2025. This marks the third time South Korea is hosting the tournament, having previously done so in 1975 and 2005.

Preview for Pakistan

Arshad Nadeem, who hails from Mian Channu, currently leads the 21-member javelin field going into the final.

He is followed by Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, who threw 83.71 metres, and Japan’s Yuta Sakiyama, who achieved a personal best of 81.36 metres. Muhammad Yasir enters the final ranked ninth.

The Pakistani javelin star took to Instagram and X to share the news with fans, posting a video of his qualifying throw and writing, “Alhamdulillah qualified this morning for the final competition tomorrow afternoon [May 31] at 1:10 pm PKT at the Asian Championships. As always I would need your support and prayers.”

Arshad’s performance in the Asian Athletics Championships 2025 reaffirms his world-class consistency and determination to bring home another medal.

Having won gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics with a record-setting 92.97-metre throw, he remains a strong favourite to win the Asian title.

Other Pakistani stars in Asian Athletics 2025

Pakistan’s fastest female sprinter, Tameem Khan, finished 17th in the Women’s 100m heats with a time of 12.14 seconds.

Top male sprinter Shajar Abbas ran 47.17 in the Men’s 400m heats and 47.38 in the semi-finals, where he finished 12th.

Fellow sprinter Abdul Mueed recorded a time of 50.10 in the heats, placing 27th.

The Pakistan Athletics Federation has expressed confidence in the team, stating that their goal is not just participation but to compete for medals at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025.

Looking ahead

After the Asian Athletics Championships 2025, Arshad Nadeem is expected to travel to England to begin preparations for the World Athletics Championships scheduled for September.

Because he has performed so well consistently, he was named Asian Athlete of the Year and people from Pakistan hope he has another success.
