MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): An arrested man has disclosed the presence of armed individuals at banned JAAC sit-in in Azad Kashmir and revealed details about the planning of violent activities, according to a press release issued by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Poonch Division.
According to the statement, a man identified as Abdullah, a resident of the Mang area of Sudhanoti district, was arrested from Rani Chowk.
Police said his initial investigative statement contained disclosures regarding armed elements allegedly present at the sit-in and plans to target law enforcement personnel.
According to police, Abdullah stated during questioning that some individuals at the banned JAAC sit-in were encouraging young people to take up arms, while armed elements were targeting law enforcement personnel as part of a planned agenda.
Police also said that videos and photographs recovered from the suspect’s mobile phone showed him alongside armed individuals.
The material has been sent for further forensic examination to establish links between the individuals shown in the footage and other possible facilitators.
The police statement said that violent elements were attempting to use the ongoing unrest to challenge the writ of the state and create instability.
It further claimed that attacks involving firearms had resulted in the deaths and injuries of law enforcement personnel and that civilians had also been targeted.
The Poonch Division police said the state respects the legitimate rights of citizens and peaceful protest but warned that violence, attacks on public institutions and threats to citizens’ lives and property would not be tolerated.
The police maintained that action against individuals involved in violent activities would continue in accordance with the law, while authorities would also take measures to protect innocent citizens and maintain public order.
