CALIFORNIA (Kashmir English): Apple is rolling out the availability of its Apple TV app to Android phones and tablets, provided they have Android 10 or higher.

This is a huge expansion of the app’s footprint, given that Apple TV+ debuted five years ago. Android users have only been able to view Apple TV+ titles in a web browser up until now, while the app was available only on Apple devices and some smart TVs.

However, this new app allows Android users to watch Apple TV+ series, films, and MLS Season Pass directly on their mobile devices, offering a more convenient viewing experience.

The Android Apple TV app provides access to a variety of content, such as Apple TV+ original programming and films, and the MLS Season Pass, an optional add-on for soccer enthusiasts at $12.99 per month or $79 per season.

Apple TV+ itself is $9.99 per month. The app also includes live Friday Night Baseball coverage, and users will be able to sign in with a current Apple ID or create a new one right from within the app.

The launch of the Apple TV app on Android smartphones is a significant development, but, surprisingly, Apple took five years to introduce its services on rival platforms.

Apple has traditionally been tardily in opening up its services to non-Apple devices, and even now, it is not clear if the rollout is worldwide or region-specific.

For instance, in Europe, the app still seems to be restricted to smart TVs. This notwithstanding, the launch is a major improvement for Android subscribers of Apple TV+, offering them an easier and more integrated method of enjoying their favorite shows.
