SRINAGAR (Kashmir English): Senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leader Professor Abdul Ghani Butt has welcomed the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, but urged meaningful dialogue to resolve the long-standing issue of Kashmir.

He termed the ceasefire made possible through US intervention as a positive development but emphasized that the only viable path to resolving the Kashmir dispute lies in meaningful and purposeful dialogue.

In a statement issued in Srinagar, Professor Butt found a lasting solution to the Kashmir issue in sincere and result-oriented talks.

He said no one understands better than India and Pakistan that war leads only to destruction and human suffering.

Expressing gratitude to Almighty Allah for the timely ceasefire move, Professor Butt lauded Pakistan’s statesmanship in responding positively to India’s ceasefire offer.

“Pakistan’s constructive response is commendable and reflects political maturity,” he added.

Kashmir remains central in future talks

Butt hoped that the issue of Kashmir would remain central in future talks as, he added, it is key to durable peace and development in South Asia.

He urged the leadership of both countries to demonstrate wisdom and statesmanship in navigating the region towards peace and development.
