SRINAGAR (Kashmir English): The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has said that the prevailing situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) requires immediate intervention by the United Nations.

According to Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas in a statement in Srinagar expressed grave concern over the ban on and takeover of schools run by Falah Aam Trust, as well as the continued imposition of Hindutva ideology and state terrorism unleashed by India in the occupied territory.

“Kashmiris being silenced”

He said it was unfortunate that the Kashmiris were being silenced and terrorised under draconian laws by the Indian BJP government and its Home Ministry-controlled LG regime without any justification during the so-called cordon and search operations.

The APHC deplored that New Delhi was attempting to weaken the Kashmiris’ demand for political justice by using brute force and distorting the true history of Jammu and Kashmir into a Hindutva narrative.

It said the BJP regime was hatching conspiracies to choke every dissenting voice in IIOJK by invoking black laws such as the Public Safety Act (PSA) and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

It said the Modi regime had trampled all fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people, including the right to expression, freedom of press and the right to political, social, business and religious activities.

The statement urged the UN and the world community not to remain indifferent to the grave situation in the occupied territory.

It said India should give up its imperialist approach, accept the ground realities in the changing geo-political context and resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions.

The APHC called upon the United Nations to play its role in the settlement of the lingering dispute as per its resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people to ensure durable peace in South Asia.
