NEELUM (Kashmir English): A Four-day anti-polio campaign will commence in Tehsil Athmuqam of Azad Kashmir on February 2.

A meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Neelum Chaudhry Iqbal Hassan reviewed preparations and strategy for the anti-polio campaign in Tehsil Athmuqam.

Anti-polio campaign to continue until Feb 5

Deputy Commissioner Neelum said that the anti-polio campaign in Tehsil Athmuqam will commence on February 2 and continue until February 05, 2026.

He appealed to the public to fully cooperate with the health department and protect children under five years of age from this deadly disease by administering polio drops.

The Deputy Commissioner said that to protect future generations from polio, all must work together.

The meeting was attended over by District Health Officer Dr. Ghulam Nabi Mughal, while Superintendent of Police Raja Muhammad Bashir, MS Dr. Sajjad Mughal, Assistant Director EPI Syed Mubashir Geelani, Focal Person Polio Campaign Khawaja Ziauddin, Coordinator Khawaja Lashkar Hussain Azad, Assistant Director Khawaja Mansha Anjum, Admin Officer DHO Office Javed Chaudhry, along with other district officers and health department officials, were also present in the meeting.

District Health Officer Dr. Ghulam Nabi Mughal told the meeting that due to heavy snowfall, the polio campaign could not be conducted in the adjoining areas of the upper sub-division Sharda, however, he said, the polio campaign will continue from Chilhanna to Dudhnial in Tehsil Athmuqam.

He said that there are 26,034 children under five years of age in Tehsil Athmuqam, and 147 mobile teams have been formed to administer polio drops to them, who will go door-to-door to vaccinate the children.

Dr. Ghulam Nabi Mughal further said that under the National Emergency Action Plan 2026, a District Polio Eradication Committee has been established in Neelum district, with the Deputy Commissioner Neelum as its chairman.

Twenty-two fixed centres have been established across the district, while five transit points will also be set up at bus stops and major highways where traveling children will be administered polio drops.

In addition, Polio Eradication Committees have been formed at the level of each Union Council, and a Polio Control Cell has also been established for reporting and redressal of complaints.
