MIRPUR (Kashmir English): The Inland Revenue Department of Azad Kashmir has taken decisive action against a prominent clothing brand in Mirpur for failing to pay sales tax during the fiscal year 2024-25, recovering Rs25.28 million from the brand’s account.
According to the department, the brand deducted 18% sales tax from customers on clothing sales in the current fiscal year but did not deposit the tax amount in the government treasury on time.
Deputy Commissioner Mahmood Alam Chaudhry passed an adjudication order worth approximately Rs 3 crore for the said years. However, the brand only deposited Rs 5.4 million in the treasury, leaving a significant amount unpaid.
On the instructions of Chairman Central Board of Revenue, Chaudhry Raqeeb, and Commissioner Inland Revenue South Zone, Syed Ansar Ali Naqvi, the department froze the brand’s bank account to recover the outstanding sales tax.
A committee led by Inspectors Nasir Mahmood, Asif Shah, and Muhammad Luqman Jaral, along with staff members Ghulam Ghaus and Raja Mazhar, successfully recovered Rs25.28 million from the brand’s account, which was then deposited with the Revenue Department.
