MIRPUR (Kashmir English): The 49th martyrdom anniversary of great legend of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) police Mohammad Yasin Khan, ex DIG Police, was observed with due solemnity and reverence here on Tuesday.
A simple but impressive ceremony was organised in this connection. This great and highly-talented personality Muhammad Yasin Khan had a distinguished career being a seasoned and intelligent officer of AJK Police Service.
Camp Office AJK government
He lost his life during the performance of his official duties at the young age of 43, in a fatal road accident near Rawat on way back to Mirpur from Rawalpindi after attending an official meeting at Poonch House, then Rawalpindi-based Camp Office of the AJK government on February 11, 1976.
Speakers at special prayer meetings held to mark the anniversary at his mosoleum in Sialkot as well as in Mirpur, paid rich tributes to the departed legendary officer of Azad Jammu and Kashmir police.
Khan attained the distinctions through successful investigations into various cases of local, national and international repute because of his exceptional and full command on the professional intellect.
He also investigated the famous hijacking case of an Indian airliner “GANGA” in 1971 to Lahore.
Speakers including veteran Kashmiri leader and PPP (Shaheed Bhutto) AJK Chapter President Ch. Muneer Hussain Advocate said that the meritorious life-long services extended by late Muhammad Yasin Khan to the masses in various positions in police would always be remembered.
They said that Khan was ever-lasting source of inspiration and guidance for the serving and upcoming police personnel.
The participants included senior journalists Sohrab Ahmed Khan, rights activists Khawaja Shahid Iqbal, academician and Director Mirpur campus of IIUI Schools Atiq ul Amin Khan, Convener Kashmir Free Media Association (JKFMA), senior Kashmiri Journalist A. H. Rao, Retired Secretary Transport AJK Adil Mahmood Khan and others.
They prayed for the upgradation of the status of the martyr’s soul in heaven. They reiterated their resolve to follow the footsteps for serving the humanity in their respective positions for overall betterment of the society in Kashmir.
