MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir Chaudhry Anwarul Haq has announced strict measures to curb inflation during Ramadan.
He has made it clear that the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and Magistrate of the district where price hikes were observed will be sent home on leave. The move is aimed at providing relief to the people and keeping prices stable.
Given the arrival of Ramadan, the government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has decided to take concrete steps to protect the people from inflation.
Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq has issued instructions in a meeting to keep food prices under control in all districts.
He has warned that if there is an unnecessary increase in prices in any district, the administrative officers there, including the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and Magistrate, will be sent on leave immediately.
The Prime Minister further said that during Ramadan, it is said that the devil is imprisoned, but here it is the other way around, the devil is set free.
The main objective of the government is to provide relief to the people and no negligence will be tolerated in this regard, PM added.
He has directed the concerned authorities to continuously monitor the markets and take strict action against illegal profiteers.
These steps are being taken against the backdrop of the government announcing a relief package of Rs 23 billion after the public protests in Azad Kashmir last year, under which the prices of flour and electricity were significantly reduced.
Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq has appealed to the people to cooperate with the government and immediately inform the concerned authorities about any increase in prices so that timely action can be taken.
He reiterated the resolve that the government will take all possible steps for the welfare of the people and will spare no effort to ensure the availability of food items and keep prices stable during the holy month of Ramadan.
