AJK observes World Hand Hygiene Day

MIRPUR (Kashmir English): World Hand Hygiene Day was observed in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) including the lake district of Mirpur to raise awareness among masses about the significance of hand hygiene for maintaining the diseases-free human health.

The day is observed under the guidance of World Health Organization (WHO) every year on May 5 as part of a major global effort to promote hand hygiene with special emphasis to improve hand hygiene in the healthcare setting.

In this regard, on the special instructions of District Health Officer Mirpur Dr. Fida Hussain Raja, basic health centers across the district including Khadak, Jatlan, Badar Bains, Afzalpur Chittar Padi, Jatlan, Kakra Town, Raipur Dadial, So Chani, and Rural Health Center Khadimabad Dadial, MCH Center C-4, Samwal Sharif, Basic Health Center Bangrila, Tehsil Headquarters Chakswari, Rural Health Center Islamgarh, Keneli, Moha hosted special events in schools.

Speakers explained the method of hand washing to children through practical demonstrations.

District Health Officer Mirpur Dr. Fida Hussain Raja especially, visited Government Boys High School Kalyal Shero and attended the session and reviewed all the activities.

Health and cleanliness go hand in hand

Addressing the students, the DHO said that health and cleanliness go hand in hand.

Dr. Fida said that a healthy society, in true perspective, emerges only if everyone stands healthy in the society.

He stressed the importance of making hand hygiene practices a regular activity in schools. The DHO lauded the school administration for hosting the grand event to mark the global day.

The session was also attended by Muhammad Riaz Assistant Director Surveillance, Dr. Sania Abbasi Female Medical Officer and Muhammad Aqeel Health Educator, besides the field medical staffers of the Health Services Department.
