MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The High Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has ordered the AJK government to pay monthly wages and arrears to all contingent work-charge staff.
The high court accepted the petition filed by the contingent paid staff seeking the court to order the Azad Kashmir govt to pay the staff the fixed minimum wages as Rs.25000 per month.
The petition, filed by the advocate Khawaja Muhammad Akbar, stated that different departments of the government have not been paying wages to contingent-paid staff as per the circular dated 27.10.2022.
Justice Chaudhry Khalid Rasheed heard and accepted the plea, ordering all AJK govt departments to ensure the payment of wages to the unskilled contingent paid staff at the rate fixed by the Government every year forthwith along with arrears to the petitioners from 27.10.2022 within a span of three months.
“All the unskilled contingent paid staff working in the Government Departments as well as attached institutions are hereby declared entitled to receive wages fixed by the Government per year,” the court verdict read.
Thousands of daily wage workers working in all departments, local bodies, and semi-government institutions across Azad Kashmir will benefit from the decision.
Civil society from all over Azad Kashmir has appreciated the decision of the High Court.
