MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Food Controller and Secretary Food Authority Abdul Hameed Kiyani has issued instructions to all District Food Controllers in light of the instructions given by the Supreme Court of Azad Kashmir.
In a notification, the Secretary Food Authority has instructed to immediately seal any bakery found selling substandard and expired food items sealed.
“A zero-tolerance strategy should be adopted against those selling adulterated food items, and such businesses should not be allowed to operate,” he said.
Furthermore, the instructions added, “Such bakeries that are running restaurants in their own name and are selling substandard, adulterated and expired food items, their samples should be taken and tested immediately by mobile laboratories and action should be taken.”
He further instructed the district food controller to inspect the drinking water and milk of bakeries in a mobile food testing laboratory.
A list of milk shops that are registered and a list of those who have given a security deposit should be submitted to the court. “Unregistered milk shops should not be allowed to open or do business,” the instructions included.
“Food Authority officials should inspect markets regularly and continue the inspection process continuously to maintain high food safety standards,’ it added.
He said in the directive that all food safety officers should take steps to prevent substandard goods without any specific and uninterrupted action in the light of the orders of the Supreme Court and submit weekly compliance reports.
