MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Food Authority has generated a total of Rs 10.1 million in fines during the first six months of Fiscal Year 2025-26.
In its six-month performance report from June to November 2025, the Secretary Food Authority AJK said that a total of 16,887 food business operators were inspected during the period.
As a result of violations of food safety laws, 914 improvement notices were issued, while 1,463 food business operators were fined, generating a total of Rs 10.1 million in penalties.
The report further stated that 495 applications for food business registration were received, from which Rs 1.93 million were collected. Additionally, Rs 0.72 million was obtained from the renewal of 164 licenses.
During ongoing operations, the Food Authority sealed 42 substandard food units and collected 2,543 food samples for laboratory testing. Moreover, defective and unsafe food items worth Rs 9.30 million were destroyed to prevent public health risks.
The Food Authority reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the availability of safe and quality food for the public, stating that monitoring and enforcement measures will be further strengthened in the future.
