MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has imposed a ban on the movement of livestock outside the territory in an effort to stable meat prices.
Initially the ban has been imposed for one month. District Magistrate Muzaffarabad formally issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday.
According to the notification, the authorities observed disparity in the prices of beef and mutton in the AJK and outside the territory like city of Rawalpindi.
It said that city like Muzaffarabad has no proper cattle market. Local traders also prefer cattle markets outside AJK to sell their livestock for better prices that, the notification said, leads to shortage of livestock and increased rates for the commodity.
Government meat rates
The government believes that the meat was not available to general public on prescribed government rates.
That compelled the government to impose ban on the movement of livestock outside the territory, according to the notification.
District Magistrate Muzaffarabad Mudassar Farooq warned through the notification that violators will be strictly dealt with law.
