MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The first phase of sowing maize seeds has been successfully completed at Organic Growers Agriculture Farm in Parsacha village, Muzaffarabad, on Tuesday.
This initiative aims to produce high-quality maize seeds locally, ensuring a reliable supply for farmers in Azad Kashmir.
In a statement, the AJK Agriculture Department said that the first phase has covered over 40 kanals of land in Parsacha village. Local landowners and field staff of the Agriculture Department jointly sowed the seeds through line sowing, it added.
Agriculture Officer Extension Centre Kahori Javed Riaz said that the Agriculture Department is keen to produce high quality maize seeds at the local level so that our farmers do not have to face any problem in obtaining seeds at the local level.
He stated that his department is providing certified and season-appropriate seeds of Azad Kashmir to the farmers so that they can get better yields from them. Apart from this, the department is also providing round-the-clock support to the farmers, he maintained.
Azad Kashmir government has established the Organic Growers Farm Parsacha to promote organic farming practices, reduce the environmental impact of agriculture, and mitigate climate change.
Not only are pure crops, fruits, and vegetables being produced, but also eco-friendly plants are being planted every year at the farm.
