ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has approved the construction of two new airports in Muzaffarabad and Sukkur.
A private media outlet, citing sources, reported that PAA has formed a committee consisting of senior officials to acquire land for the airports in both cities.
As per the details, the concerned department has commenced preliminary work on both airports, estimated to cost billions of rupees, and will be completed within five years.
Approving the project, the PAA plans to engage consultants and other experts to ensure the successful completion of projects.
Earlier, the federal government announced plans to build an airport in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) at the demand of overseas Pakistanis.
On April 10, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) said that a commercial feasibility study has been initiated for a Mirpur airport project.
The PAA has issued an advertisement to hire the consultancy services of a renowned firm for conducting the commercial feasibility studies for the proposed airport in Mirpur.
Proposals have been invited from well-reputed consultants registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). The selection will be made through the Quality and Cost-Based Selection (QCBS) method, the PAA said in a statement.
The development came after the British Members of Parliament demanded an international airport in Mirpur.
In a letter written to Prime Minister Shehbaz, led by Kashmiri-origin British MP Muhammad Yasin, MPs said that Mirpur’s international airport will open new doors of development and progress for overseas Kashmiris and Pakistanis.
