Christian community celebrates Easter with devotion

Muzaffarabad (Kashmir English): Easter is being celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm and devotion by Christians in Pakistan marking with traditional festivities and prayers.

According to the Christians, Easter is the most important festival in the Christian calendar. It celebrates Jesus (Hazrat Isa) rising from the dead, three days after he was executed.

The Christian community will be celebrating Easter with its traditions and practices in churches around Pakistan, as it is the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Reverend Zeresh Daniel who led the Easter Mass & Prayer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that they had about 600 people. Similar services are being held around Pakistan.

Pakistan‘s leadership, including President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, have conveyed greetings to the Christian community and recognized the day and occasion.

President Zardari stated that Easter is a time for unity and harmony, and reflects on qualities of compassion, sacrifice and forgiveness in Jesus Christs life. He stated, the nation greatly values the contributions made by the Christian community in the country‘s development.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tributes to Christians in Pakistan noting Easter is a measure of renewal and hope, and further, their contributions to the national construction and development of Pakistan.

The government has taken steps to secure a safe and peaceful environment for worshippers. The Punjab government has provided security orders with respect to Easter celebrations.

The communications from the President and Prime Minister reflect the governments commitment to minority rights, and safeguarding their development and empowerment, and with it their access and freedoms, and promotion of constitutional rights, and minority interests.
