ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Senior leader All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) and Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM), Altaf Ahmed Bhat, has expressed deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences on the passing of distinguished Islamic scholar, and staunch supporter of the Kashmir Freedom Movement, Professor Khurshid Ahmad.

In his condolence statement, Bhat described Professor Khurshid Ahmad’s demise as an irreparable loss to the intellectual, ideological, and freedom-loving circles of the Muslim world.

He hailed him as the true successor of Syed Abul A’la Maududi (RA), a devoted advocate for Kashmir’s right to self-determination, and a towering luminary of modern Islamic economics.

Professor Khurshid Ahmad was an institution

“Professor Khurshid Ahmad was, in essence, not just an individual but an institution unto himself — a sheltering figure for the resilient people of Kashmir and a luminous intellectual whose ideas continue to illuminate hearts and minds across the globe,” Bhat said.

He acknowledged that Professor Khurshid Ahmad’s scholarly contributions, with over 70 books authored in Urdu and English and his editorship of esteemed international journals, reflect a lifelong devotion to the advancement of Islamic thought and economic justice.

“For over half a century, his life was an embodiment of wisdom, loyalty, eloquence, and steadfastness. His unflinching support for the Kashmir cause and his deep spiritual bond with the late Syed Ali Geelani (RA) will always be remembered with great reverence by the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Bhat added.

The APHC leader emphasized that Professor Khurshid Ahmad was more than a scholar adding he was a compassionate advocate and a lighthouse of guidance for countless Kashmiri freedom fighters and refugees.

“There is no doubt that among all intellectuals and ideologues in Pakistan, Professor Khurshid Ahmad stood tallest in defending and promoting the just struggle of the Kashmiri people. His commitment to the Kashmir cause was a living example of sincerity, courage, and deep faith,” Bhat remarked.

He highlighted that the Kashmiri resistance leadership, the Hurriyat Conference, and the people of Kashmir viewed Professor Khurshid Ahmad as the intellectual and ideological heir to Maulana Maududi (RA) and as one of the staunchest believers that Kashmir’s freedom was intertwined with Pakistan’s stability and integrity.

He concluded by praying for the elevation of Professor Khurshid Ahmad’s soul and by extending his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family, Jamaat-e-Islami, his students, and admirers worldwide.
