Pakistan Railways announces 20% discount on tickets for Eid days

LAHORE (Kashmir English): Pakistan Railways (PR) has announced a 20% discount on passenger train tickets during the three days of Eid-ul-Fitr with the department also running three special trains on the occasion.

According to officials, discount on fares will be available on all mail express, passenger, and intercity trains. Passengers can avail themselves of the discounted fares on current bookings for the first, second, and third day of Eid likely to be celebrated on March 31.

The decision aims to financially facilitate passengers and encourage more people to use rail services during the Eid days.

Pakistan Railways had previously offered similar fare concessions, on special occasions to support passengers and promote train journey.

The decreased fares will be offered at railway reservation offices, mobile applications and online booking platforms.

Passengers have been advised to book their tickets in advance to avoid last-minute inconveniences due to travellers rush.

Eid special trains

Pakistan Railways has also announced three Eid special trains departing from Karachi – the biggest and port city of the country – to accommodate the surge in passengers traveling for the festive occasion.

According to Railways officials, two of these special trains will run from Karachi to Lahore, while one will run between Karachi and Rawalpindi.

The first Eid special train will leave Karachi Cantt Station for Lahore on March 26 at 1 pm. The second train will depart from Karachi City Station for Rawalpindi on March 27 at 8:30pm while the third Eid special train will depart from Karachi Cantt Station for Lahore on March 28 at 9pm.

Eid is likely on March 31 (Monday), depending on the sighting of Shawaal moon.

The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee and the zonal committees will separately convene on the evening of March 30 (Sunday) to sight the moon of Shawwal, marking the potential end of the holy month of Ramadan.
