LAHORE (Kashmir English): In the week ending March 20, Pakistan‘s weekly inflation rate based on the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) decreased by 0.35 percent (from 320.75 to 319.62).
In year–over–year inflation comparisons, SPI is 1.20 percent lower than the same week last year. The weekly SPI provides price values for 51 items measured in 17 urban centers across all consumption and expenditure groups.
The lowest income group, which is calculated based on an income up to Rs 17,732, decreased in their SPI value by 0.39 percent (from 309.65 to 308.43).
In comparison, the other consumption groups measured in urban centers experienced SPI values decreasing by 0.35–0.40 percent in a week–over–week comparison.
Out of the 51 items measured, 11 reported a price increase, 18 items reported a price decrease and 22 items remained unchanged from the prior week.
Items with significant price declines last week included tomatoes (–7.08%), onions (–6.07%), garlic (–5.59%), eggs (–4.64%), and potatoes (–2.50%). Items that saw a price increase on a week–over–week basis included lawn printed (2.90%), LPG (1.53%), bananas (1.45%), and long cloth (1.23%).
