Bagh Development Authority employees to increase scale of protest

BAGH (Kashmir English): The employees of the Bagh Development Authority (BDA) have announced the shifting of the protest camp in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office if their demands are not met by March 24, 2025.

As per the details, the BDA employees have been protesting for two months against the non-payment of salaries for the last six months.

Furthermore, the protesters have also been demanding the commutation and monthly pension for retired employees. Another demand includes making employees who have been working for 20 years permanent and setting a minimum as per government notification.

Employees in permanent establishments should be provided with the facility of consumption or golden handshake, the demands include. “End the disparity between Grant-in-Aid and salaries and make Grant-in-Aid equal to salaries,” it includes.

According to the notice issued on Thursday, the protestors said that they tried to make their voices heard by the authorities through peaceful protest. 

“The government ministers, the Deputy Commissioner of Bagh, the Chairman District Council of Bagh, and the officials of the Traders’ Association participated in the protest to express solidarity and to play their role in approving the demands, but no response has been received so far from the competent authority,” the notice wrote.

It is already the 20th of Ramadan with only 8-9 days left for Eid-ul-Fitr and the employees have not yet arranged anything for the children, it read. “Now the scale of the endurance has crossed the limit.”

They warned that if salaries are not received by March 24, they will stage a sit-in with their families outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office. They further warned that the protest would lead to a hunger strike or self-immolation.
