ONTARIO, Canada (Kashmir English): A former captain of Canada’s prominent airline, Air Canada, has been nabbed for allegedly operating hundreds of flights for nearly 17 years without a proper pilot’s licence.
According to Peel Regional Police in Ontario, Canada, Jeffrey Wall has been charged with fraud and using forged documents after a four-month long investigation.
According to an Al Jazeera report, 59-year-old Jeffrey Wall is accused of operating more than 900 domestic and international flights between 2009 and 2025 by relying on a fake licence.
According to police, they have found evidence suggesting that Jeffrey Wall misled Air Canada and senior civil aviation authorities and lied about his credentials before his retirement in 2025.
Police said the former Air Canada captain had a general commercial pilot’s licence, but he did not possess an ‘Airline Transport Pilot Licence’, which is considered the highest and mandatory legal certificate for captaining any large passenger aircraft.
Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah expressed deep concern over the issue in his statement, saying: “This matter is extremely concerning and has undermined public trust and safety, as the accused is alleged to have endangered the lives of millions of passengers on over 900 domestic and international flights.”
Now, Jeffrey Wall faces serious charges such as fraud, using forged documents, and disturbing public peace.
On the other hand, the airline stated that passenger safety has never been compromised, as all airline pilots must undergo mandatory training every six months where their skills are assessed, along with an annual flight check.
Air Canada clarifies
The Air Canada clarified that Jeffrey Wall was always successful during his training and demonstrated excellent skills to safely fly large aircraft.
The airline stated, “As soon as Air Canada became aware of this, the pilot was immediately removed from duty, and the company voluntarily reported the matter to Transport Canada.”
The airline has also checked the records of all its other pilots, and no other such case has emerged.
