ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): The government has decided to include unmarried women over 35 in the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).

This inclusion came up at a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sub-committee meeting.

Bilal Mandokhel stated that many unmarried women are overlooked for aid. He argued that these women, often having no support system, desperately need help.

Contrary to this stance, BISP officials previously claimed that the program didn’t cover single ladies. Yet, they recently confirmed a change in policy as unmarried women over 35 are now eligible for assistance.

Experts believe this adjustment marks a significant milestone in enhancing our social security framework. With a sizable unmarried female population struggling financially, this update should make a difference. Many juggle economic hardships, lack familial backing, and encounter limited job prospects.

Thanks to this change, eligible women will receive much-needed funds to manage everyday costs. It’s hoped that this will lift some economic burdens from these individuals.

By doing so, they might enjoy more dignity in their lives. Overall, it’s a step towards helping the less privileged escape persistent poverty.

Government announces major increase in BISP Stipend

A significant raise of 24.14% in the quarterly cash support package for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) scheme has been formally sanctioned by the federal government, taking the cash allowance from Rs. 14,000 to Rs. 18,000.
This new arrangement will become operational from January 2027. The upgrade is a component of a wider series of social protection measures intended to assist poor families in adapting to continuous inflation and increased cost of living.
It has been confirmed that documentation relating to the rise has been provided to the IMF as part of Pakistan’s efforts towards economic stabilization.
