MUZAFFARABAD (Kashmir English): The federal government has transferred Rs79.07 million in fuel subsidy payments to motorcycle owners and transporters in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) under a special relief initiative aimed at easing fuel-related expenses, the AJK Excise Department said on Wednesday.

According to the press release, a total of 7,157 registered vehicle owners have benefited from the subsidy so far. The beneficiaries include motorcycle owners as well as holders of commercial and public transport route permits.

As per the official data, 5,225 motorcycle owners received a subsidy of Rs 10.45 million, while 1,961 owners of other vehicles, including buses and trucks, received Rs 68.62 million.

The press release further stated that the fuel subsidy payments were transferred directly to beneficiaries whose bank accounts or digital wallets had been verified by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The subsidy distribution was carried out through a digital procedure designed to ensure transparency, efficiency, and timely delivery of funds.

The statement further noted that the scheme covered vehicle owners who had obtained registration and route permits in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and had paid token tax within the region.

“More cases are also under consideration by the federal government, National Information Technology Board (NITB), and Transport Authority for providing a fuel subsidy facility,” the press release concludes.
