WASHINGTON (Kashmir English): U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff on Thursday told the Cabinet that Pakistan is acting as a mediator in talks between US and Iran to end the war.

Speaking during the Cabinet meeting, Witkoff said that the White House has sent a 15-point plan to Tehran through Pakistan as an intermediary in an attempt to end the war with Iran.

“I can report to you today that we have, along with your foreign-policy team, presented a 15-point action list that forms the framework for a peace deal,” Witkoff told Trump during the meeting.

“This has been circulated through the Pakistani government, acting as the mediator. The plan has resulted in strong and positive messaging and talks, as you just indicated to the press,” said Witkoff.

Witkoff said Iran is “looking for an offramp” following the president’s threats. “Finally, we have told Iran one last thing — don’t miscalculate again,” the special envoy stated.

Iran has rejected the points proposed by the U.S. as one-sided, and the Reuters news agency cited a senior Iranian official as saying Thursday that there was “still no arrangement for negotiations, and no plan for talks ‌appears ‌realistic at this stage.”

Pakistan confirms facilitating US-Iran indirect talks

Earlier, in a post on X, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed that US-Iran indirect talks are taking place through messages being relayed by Pakistan.

Confirming the development, he said that the 15-point plan shared by the United States is “being deliberated upon by Iran”.

“Brotherly countries of Turkiye and Egypt, among others, are also extending their support to this initiative,” he wrote.

Dar further said that Pakistan remains fully committed to promoting peace and continues to make every effort to ensure stability in the region and beyond. “Dialogue and Diplomacy is the only way forward!” he added.

A CNN report said Wednesday that the White House is trying to arrange a meeting in Pakistan this weekend to discuss an off-ramp to end the military conflict with Iran. U.S. Vice President JD Vance may travel to Pakistan for the talks, said the report.
