ISLAMABAD (Kashmir English): Pakistan ODI captain and fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi withdrew from The Hundred 2026 auction, just hours before bidding was set to begin on Thursday.

The fast bowler withdrew from the tournament because of Pakistan’s scheduled a Test series against the West Indies in July.

Other players pulled out at the last minute ahead of the auction, including Quinton de Kock, Sunil Narine, AM Ghazanfar, and Peter Siddle, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed.

Afridi, who previously represented Welsh Fire in 2023, had been listed in the ‘Tier 1 Fast Bowlers’ category for Thursday’s auction.

During his earlier appearance in the competition, the left-arm pacer claimed six wickets. He had also been set to return last year but withdrew shortly before the event.

On the other hand, two players, Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq, were signed from the pool of Pakistan players during The Hundred auction 2026 held at Piccadilly Lights in London on Thursday.

Birmingham Phoenix secured Tariq for £140,000 (PKR 5.32 crore), making him the first Pakistan player signed in the tournament. The Indian-owned team Sunrisers Leeds successfully bought mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed for £190,000 (PKR 7.12 crore).

However, Pacer Haris Rauf, all-rounder Shadab Khan, and batter Saim Ayub went unsold in their respective rounds.

The signing of spinner Abrar Ahmed ended concerns that Pakistan players would be ignored by franchises affiliated to the Indian Premier League (IPL) or owned by Indian nationals.

Last week, 14 Pakistan cricketers out of 63 registered for The Hundred auction were shortlisted, featuring predominantly seamers and all‑rounders.
